The gift of these Cavafy translations by Evan Jones, in my lifetime… Happy Valentines, Evan.

“he’s so happy…he’s so happy being gay.”

Fans/readers of PIQ know quite well how large C.P. Cavafy figures in my life. In case you missed it, I’m joined here by fellow Cavafian, poet/friend EVAN JONES whose recent translations of Cavafy The Barbarians Arrive Today (Carcanet 2020) are dear to my heart.

My fellow Cavafian

"When he figures things out, he knows exactly who he is," says Evan about Cavafy, "he's so happy… he's so happy being gay."
And while this simple declaration may appear obvious, it's the first time I've ever heard it spoken aloud in reference to Cavafy.https://t.co/UWDSGcM1ZS pic.twitter.com/asZnuiqSwT
